Obi Ugochuku is Managing Partner at GCA Capital Partners, a capital market development and public sector advisory firm. In his role at GCA he has advised on a number of developmental engagements, including with the World Bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Development Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Environment Through GCAs stake in Applied Logic (a finmarket data company) he has provided technical support to the Nigeria Securities & Exchange Commission on regulatory and liquidity products. He has also facilitated capacity building sessions for the SEC & the Nigeria Stock Exchange. His team at APL through a research partnership with Refinitiv (part of the London Stock Exchange Group) provide content for Eikon. Obi has also consulted for a number of development partner programs in Nigeria, including the FCDOs State and Local Government Program, DESNZ Climate Finance Accelerator Program (which is in 9 countries) and FCDOs UK Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (UKNIAF). He was also the climate finance expert for an FCDO/World Bank supported team that advised Morocco’s Ministry of Finance on greening its GBP1.3b Muhammed VI Fund (M6F). He was Special Adviser, Climate Finance to the then Minister for Environment, now Deputy Secretary General at the United Nations. In that role he led the process that resulted in the issuance of the first sovereign green bond out of Africa issued by Nigeria for USD29m in 2017. He similarly led the process that resulted in the issuance of Nigerias second green bond for USD44m in 2019. He has a BSc in Finance from the University of Nigeria and an MBA from Wayne State University in Detroit. Prior to setting up GCA Capital Partners, Obi worked for several years in Washington DC for the International Finance Corporations Asia and Africa Regions.
