Cosmas Ngozichukwu Anyanwu was born on the 21st July 1968 in Njaba LGA of Imo state. His early educational formation took place in Town School Umuaka (1975-81) and St. Savior’s High School Umuaka (1981-86), where he finished as the best student in the WAEC examination in 1986. In 1987, he proceeded to Bulgaria under UNESCO-funded scholarship to pursue his studies in Chemical Engineering, which he completed successfully in 1993. After a brief work experience in Europe, he returned to Nigeria in 1996 for the compulsory NYSC program, during which he worked as a Process Engineer at the Eleme Petrochemicals Ltd. Thereafter, he also worked with Brident Oil Exploration Company. He was appointed a Research Fellow in the National Centre for Energy Research and Development, UNN in 2003, where he rose to the position of Senior Research Fellow in 2012. He completed his PhD in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering from the University of Nigeria in 2012.

In his career spanning 17 years in UNN, he has been opportuned to work as Visiting Research Fellow at ENEA Research Centre, Italy; Aprovecho Research Centre Oregon, USA among others. Dr Anyanwu has served as Lead Consultant on various Renewable Energy Projects to the German International Co-operation Agency (GIZ), International Centre for Energy, Environment and Development (ICEED), Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) among others. Through a United Nations Foundation Grant, he attracted and installed the first Biomass Stove Testing Laboratory in Nigeria. He represents Nigeria in the ISO Technical Committee (TC 285) on cookstoves.

A COREN Registered Engineer, Dr. Anyanwu is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agric. and Bioresources Engineering, UNN, as well as the Deputy Director of the World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development. He is the Chairman of the National Technical Committee on Clean Cookstoves and Cooking Solutions, as well as the Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineering (NIAE) Enugu State Chapter.

Currently, he is involved in the following projects (i)Senior Research Fellow, Deep Decarbonisation Pathways Project in Nigeria, (ii) Consultant to ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) project on development of Stove Standards for West Africa, (iii) Consultant to the UNDP Sustainable Fuelwood Management Project in Nigeria

Dr. Anyanwu speaks Igbo, English, Bulgarian and Italian languages fluently.  He is married with children.
