Dr Obumneme Nwafor

(Senior Fellow)

Dr Obumneme Nwafor is a researcher and educator in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Engineering and Renewable Energy, with over 15 years of industry experience in developing intelligent analytics systems. He combines this extensive industry experience with an active academic teaching and research profile, with core specialty in predictive analytics for process optimisation and risk mitigation in power systems. He has worked with government and development partners on AI and Data systems applications, and previously served a 4-year special assignment at the Scottish Government as a Corporate Data Intelligence Analyst. He is currently the Chief Technical Officer of UK FCDO-funded $1 million project to deliver AI systems and capacity-building for Clean Energy Transition. Currently serving as a Co-Investigator at Glasgow Caledonian University, Dr. Nwafor plays a major leadership role as Chief Technical Officer on a UK FCDO-funded $1 million project to deliver AI systems and capacity-building for Clean Energy Transition.

His technical expertise lies in predictive modeling, machine learning system design, and the application of explainable AI for operational optimization and risk mitigation in power and energy systems. He has developed innovative frameworks that integrate hybrid AI models, geospatial data, and SHAP-based interpretability techniques to support decision-making in areas such as renewable energy siting, green hydrogen investment planning, and electricity distribution efficiency. Dr. Nwafor is also an emerging thought leader in Strategic Institutional Intelligence (SII), a framework he is developing to enhance organizational efficiency through diagnostic engagements, behavioural analytics, and AI integration. His work in this area aims to strengthen institutional capacity, particularly in emerging economies, by embedding intelligence systems into governance, policy design, and operational strategy.

He has authored and is actively developing several high-impact research publications focused on AI applications in electricity distribution, energy systems, green hydrogen, and climate-informed infrastructure risk assessment
