Ogheneruona Endurance D

Ogheneruona is a self-motivated energy systems and climate change mitigation technology expert. He holds B.Eng degree and M.Eng degree, with distinction, from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria; and a PhD degree (energy and power) from Cranfield University, UK. He currently lectures energy and applied thermodynamics courses at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Port Harcourt. He is a Fellow of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, with a close tie with the MIT Energy Initiative.

Ogheneruona’s research interest intersects energy system modelling, environmental sustainability, and climate change mitigation technologies – renewable energy development, clean cooling and cooking, low grade energy conversion technologies, e-mobility, miniaturised internal combustion engines and carbon capture and sequestration. Ogheneruona is a recipient of the most touted prize for sustainable development goals, the Hult Prize certificate of recognition as a judge. He is also a recipient of other international awards, namely Paul Eisenklan European award, Tertiary Education Trust Fund PhD research grant, Shell Petroleum and Development Company Scholarship etc. He is a Registered Mechanical Engineer by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

Ogheneruona is well known in the energy and climate change mitigation realm. He was involved in the modelling of renewable energy systems for the coastal communities of Nigeria under the Climate Impact Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement (CIRCLE) programme, which works to strengthen climate change research in Sub-Saharan Africa. He is a Lead Author for the Working Group III contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) – Transport chapter. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the prestigious journal of Energy and Climate Change. He is a reviewer of more than 10 archival journals in the field of energy systems and climate change. He is currently working on a GCRF funded networking grant (as the PI) entitled Mapping and development of geographic information system of biomass potential in sub-Saharan Africa. He is also currently involved in Transforming Energy Access – Learning Partnership: MSc Energy Access and Renewable Energy Technology project (as the PI) funded by DFID (administered by Carbon Trust), with special focus on sustainable energy development for climate change mitigation. He is a core team member in the Nigeria long term energy scenarios/modelling project funded by the French Development Agency. He has more than 35 scientific publications in archival journals and conferences in the areas of sustainable energy and climate change.
